Dick Durbin at May Day Immigration Rally: Communists? What Communists?

On Wednesday, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) joined nearly two thousand trade unionists, open communists, socialists, anarchists and illegal aliens at Chicago’s May Day march and rally

Durbin-Che

Two large rally demonstrations that began at Union Park and Chicago’s Haymarket Riot monument converged into a giant march that shut down traffic for miles, and ended at Federal Plaza where they were joined by Senator Durbin.

Durbin made remarks to the red, yellow and black flag waving crowd about “immigration reform.” Opening with “My fellow immigrants,” Durbin told the crowd “this is a once in a lifetime chance” to get “immigration reform.”

Following his speech, I spoke to the senator about his participation:

Durbin then mounted a rather bizarre defense of his participation in the rally–on free speech grounds:

Rebelpundit: There is a large contingent of Communist Party USA, anarchists, international socialist groups here today that you just spoke to…

Durbin: How do you know that?

Rebelpundit: Because I’ve filmed them all day, and you just spoke to them, so I’d like to ask about your participation, why you decided to come out today?

Durbin: Well let me just say something, because [pause] I believe in the Constitution. Do you believe in it?

Rebelpundit: Because you believe in the Constitution you decided to come out to a rally full of communists and socialists?

Durbin: And you know why?

Rebelpundit: Why?

Durbin: Because we have freedom of speech in America, and that’s why you can record this and not be arrested.

RebelPundit: You think I should be arrested?

Durbin: No, not at all, you have a right to your constitutional rights, and I do, too.

Why Is Farrakhan’s Cop Son Driving a Taxpayer-Funded Police Car and Carrying a Gun?

Why Is Farrakhan’s Cop Son Driving a Taxpayer-Funded Police Car and Carrying a Gun When He Hasn’t Worked a Shift in 4+ Years?

The Minister Louis Farrakhan’s son, Mustapha, is making headlines in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs after some intriguing claims were made in a Chicago Sun-Times article on Sunday. A registered police officer with the Harvey Police Department in Harvey, Illinois, Mustapa allegedly hasn’t worked a shift in more than four years. However, that’s not what’s raising eyebrows.

According to state records, a lack of employment activity with the police force hasn’t stopped the man, known as “Supreme Captain” of the Nation of Islam (a title that means he could one day take his father’s place) from purportedly exercising police duties. Mustapha, 52, apparently still has a badge, drives an unmarked police car and he’s registered with the state as a gun-carrying cop in the city of Harvey.

Certainly, these elements are odd for an officer who reportedly hasn’t worked in years, but the Sun-Times’ account provides additional details that may cause some head-scratching, specifically considering the alleged “off-duty” work that Mustapha does for the Nation of Islam:

Officer Farrakhan does, though, appear to do “police work” off-duty, more than a dozen miles outside Harvey city limits, in Chicago, where he uses his Harvey squad car’s lights to stop traffic and escorts his father’s unofficial motorcade, a Chicago Sun-Times investigation has found.

UPDATE: Number Of U.S. Gun Makers Refusing Sales To Gov’t In ‘Firearms Equality Movement’ Triples In Two Weeks

UPDATE: Number Of U.S. Gun Makers Refusing Sales To Gov’t In ‘Firearms Equality Movement’ Triples In Two Weeks

Total Companies: 120

On February 22, “Right Views” reported that a growing number of firearm companies have suspended the sale of guns to states, counties, cities and municipalities that restrict their citizens’ rights to own them.

In just two weeks, the number of companies participating in what has been named the “Firearms Equality Movement,” has more than tripled from 34 companies to 118.

The Police Loophole lists every company and links to the statements that each has released regarding their new policies.

Wilson Combat, a custom pistol manufacturer located in Berryville, Arkansas, joined the movement on February 28 stating the following:

“Wilson Combat will no longer provide any products or services to any State Government imposing legislation that infringes on the second amendment rights of its law abiding citizens. This includes any Law Enforcement Department, Law Enforcement Officers, or any State Government Entity or Employee of such an entity. This also applies to any local municipality imposing such infringements.”

Wilson lists the states included on its no sale policy as: California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington D.C. and The City of Chicago, Illinois.

The statement also reads:

“Wilson Combat will in NO way support the government of these states or their anti-gun agenda that only limits the rights of law-abiding citizens. Wilson Combat will continue to supply any product and/or service they can legally sell in these states to all non-government affiliated citizens.”

Chicago Shooting Spree, Day 30: 42 Killed So Far

via breitbart

obama_rahm_emanuel_AP_250pxThe number of homicides in Chicago for January stands at 42, and the month isn’t over.

This makes it “the most deadly January in more than ten years.”

The most recent of the 42 homicides was the Tuesday murder of a 15-year old girl who took part in Obama’s second inauguration. The girl, Hadiya Pendleton, was standing with a group of friends in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park when a gunman ran up, opened fire, then fled the scene.

In short, while gun control proponents in Chicago promise peace and safety, it seems they are actually on the verge of delivering another year like 2012–a year in which more than 440 school age children were shot and wounded and 500 homicides were committed.

Chicago is the gun-control capital of America, yet NBC News accurately describes it as “bullet-scarred.”

Congressman Rangel Slams South Over Guns but Doesn’t Mention Chicago or Detroit

Congressman Rangel Slams South Over Guns but Doesn’t Mention Chicago or Detroit

Charles Rangel is a Democrat Congressman from New York. He is not a big believer in the Second Amendment. He’s also prejudice against the South. Speaking on MSNBC Live on January 16, 2013 Rangel said that “‘some of the southern areas have cultures that we have to overcome’ when it comes to gun control.” He went on to say:

“New York is a little different and more progressive in a lot of areas than some other states and some of the southern areas have cultures that we have to overcome.”

What he means by “more progressive” is more liberal. New York is pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, pro-high taxes, pro-government regulations, pro-union,  and pro-being-a-busybody telling people what they can eat and drink.

I find it interesting that the violent crime rate in New York is higher than in Georgia: 3.98 per 1000 in New York and 3.73 per thousand in Georgia.

Maybe Rangel was talking about south Chicago:

Homicides in Chicago spiked by 60 percent during the first three months of the year despite an increase in police resources in some of the city’s most dangerous neighborhoods, according to new police crime statistics. . . .

Teachers Flock to Northwestern University for ‘Marxist Conference’

Teachers Flock to Northwestern University for ‘Marxist Conference’

.

.

This Saturday, the Midwest Marxist Conference was held at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. The event was teeming with teachers who spoke about the new found bond between the radical socialists and their Teachers Union. The all-day event, which collected money to support Chicago Socialists and featured a communist bookstore, provided students on-campus along with the radical left community to plan the next phase in their activism.

Becca Barnes, a Chicago Teachers Union teacher and organizer with Chicago Socialists, proclaimed at the beginning of the conference that “the struggle here in the United States has entered a new phase. Nowhere have we pointed the way forward more clearly than here in Chicago with the teachers union strike.”

After the opening plenary, breakout sessions addressed more specific topics like the history of the Democratic party, education, and case studies in Russia. In these sessions, speakers continued to celebrate the use of education as a mechanism to insert Marxism into public institutions. In one session, the idea of targeting their message to students, even over “the working class,” was debated.

One teacher, who spoke in an afternoon session, described his tactics to overcome the problem of teachers’ unwillingness to take part in the strike, while Chicago Teachers Union Vice President Jesse Sharkey underscored Barnes’s earlier point when he spoke about the “struggle” of Chicago teachers and the need for additional support from other revolutionary movements. Through a renewed focus on the “strike weapon,” Socialist organizers remarked that they felt their movement had rediscovered its vigor—and the path forward ought to include “mass strikes,” they said.

Eric Ruder of the ISO spoke about the Socialists’ partnership with the Chicago Teachers Union during “The Meaning of Marxism” breakout session:

There are big moments in the sort of chain of historical development that we have to be able to intervene…  And in order to that, you need an organization. That’s really the sort of thing you saw in the Chicago teachers strike. In a situation where there was a huge struggle, our organization threw itself in the middle of that and had a demonstrable impact on it.

Because we’ve been rooted, experienced activists who worked together in a collaborative way to try to build up that influence over the long haul… I think when you get in revolutionary moment where your ability to quickly assess what’s happening and make strategic and tactical shifts on the fly, that is essential.

Working class revolutions have never succeeded without the existence of a revolutionary party that’s capable of making those sorts of decisions and providing that kind of leadership. And that’s what we’re asking you, the members of this group, to join and help in that process. We need you to be able to have enough size and influence to matter, but you need us to be able to be part of a force that could intervene in that sort of chain in historical development.

Other speakers addressed perceived weaknesses in the Socialists’ messaging, including the need to shore up the high pay of union members and racism inherent at the AFL-CIO, which, according to participants, has been an historic problem. Others acknowledged that the general public “seems to fear us” and brainstormed ways to counter these fears.
